We accept students ages 4 through adult into our lesson program.  Children ages 4-7 are encouraged to enroll in our individually assisted group lessons initially to safely gain the needed strength and coordination to handle a horse in a group situation.  When possible, we place students in age-appropriate groups of 2 to 3 students.  Our lessons run on weekday afternoons and by appointment on Saturday and Sunday, adhering to a strict cancellation policy requiring 24-hour notice.  If you fail to contact us at least five (5) hours prior to the start of your lesson and do not show, then you will be charged full-price for that lesson.

Peters Creek Farm invites you to take a lesson so you will be able to see the facilities, meet our staff and our horses.  Please review our Lesson Schedule and Release on line and contact our office to schedule an appointment for your first lesson.  Lessons will begin on time, so it is important that you arrive in time to groom and tack up your horse at least 20 minutes prior to the designated start time of your lesson.

We do not require formal riding attire; long pants and closed-toe shoes with a short heel are fine.  We have riding helmets to lend you initially to minimize your expenses while you are giving the exciting sport of horseback riding a try.

Our qualified certified instructor, Jessie Murray, passes her experiences and other valuable information on to her students in a way that is both fun and challenging, with emphasis on safety and kindness to the horses.

Practice Rides:  Practice Rides offer students the opportunity to practice riding and horse care skills learned in their weekly lessons.  Peters Creek Farm's Practice Rides are scheduled through the office and are generally held on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30.  Please contact us to sign up.

Leasing:  This is an unsupervised program which allows students to practice their riding skills without the expense and responsibility of owning their own horse.  Program runs Fall through Spring.  The riding school has priority over the use of the horses, if "your" horse is being used in a lesson you must schedule use of your leased horse on another time. Info for Scheduled lessons can be obtained by calling the office.  If there is another horse available in the same level for leasor, that horse may be used.  Leasors must be enrolled in weekly riding lessons at Peters Creek Farm.  Instructor approval is necessary to lease.  Leasor must be at least ten (10) years of age.  No riding in the arena during lessons without instructor's approval.  No jumping without prior instructor permission.  No jumping cross country.  Peters Creek Farm trails only.  No riding alone. Possibilities for approval of leased horses off property for Shows, Clinics, Trail Rides, etc. A Lease Agreement will be executed by PCF and Leasor.

Kind Words Shared With Us

We came to Peters Creek Farm yesterday to regain our confidence after our family experienced a scary incident in our barn with our fostered horse.  First, we fell in love with the facility, then we fell in love with Poe, our first encounter with a Clydesdale, but most importantly, Jessie gave us all the confidence to get back on a horse -- and a big, loveable one at that!

Her extensive experience and her comfortable teaching methods convinced us all that we DO want to continue with her driving and riding lesson program at Peters Creek Farm, as well as absorb her knowledge and teaching of horse care and management.  She's the best and have made us all very, very happy!  - T.C. & Family
